Beginning in Iraq, the US Military reports a car bomb in central Baghdad killed at least 21 people and wounded 27 others. Witnesses said the attack took place at the Mutana Airport, currently used as a National Guard military base. In other developments the head of the Iraqi nation Democratic Party survived an assassination attempt. Mital Allaluci and his entourage where in a convoy when gunmen opened fire. The incidents follow a pair of suicide bombing attacks against police that killed 27 Iraqis.

Israel and the Palestinians have formally agreed to a cease fire at a peace summit in Egypt. Also attended by Jordan’s King Abdullah, the meeting was hosted by Egyptian President Hosne Muborach. Palestinian President Mahmood Abbas made history by declaring the cessation of all hostilities. In response Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharone pledged to halt all military action if “there is peace and quiet on the ground.” Both leaders have also been invited to Washington for consultations with President Bush and in an attempt to bolster the agreement.
