Welcome to boob of the week. The segment where we hose down celebrity hose bags for thoughtless acts of excessive stupidity. This week’s target former North Carolina Senator and Presidential candidate John Edwards. You’ve no doubt heard the details of his affair with campaign aide Rial Hunter in 2006. At first Edward’s adamantly denied the affair. I have no idea what you’re asking about. I’ve responded to consistently to these tabloid allegations by saying I don’t respond to these lies and you know that and you covered me and I stand by that. Then in an interview on ABC’s Nightline he admitted to the affair but denied paternity of Ms. Hunter’s newborn baby. I would welcome participating in a paternity test. Be happy to participate in one. I know that it’s not possible that this child could be mine because of the timing of events so I know it’s not possible. Happy to take a paternity test and would love to see it happen. The paternity test said otherwise and he eventually confessed. The scandal has totally derailed his political career but none of that makes him the boob of the week. This does. Edwards is moving his mistress into his Wilmington, North Carolina neighborhood. He said he wants to play an active role in his child’s life. Sounds like the proper noble thing to do right? Well maybe until you consider Edward’s wife Elizabeth is caught up in this mess. Has this woman not yet been through enough? She supported John through the reports of infidelity even though she was in the midst of a battle with breast cancer when the story broke. She even stood strong through the paternity tests but this latest stunt might have pushed her over the edge and who could blame her. Could you imagine watching your spouse of 30 years raise an illegitimate child? Elizabeth was allegedly furious about her husband’s decision and frankly so were we. It’s tough to find truly shocking stories these days but this one definitely qualifies. This man was almost president of the United States. He has lied and lied again and just when you think he’s done, out comes another hidden truth. Let me say this and I want to say it absolutely clearly. I was wrong and I am responsible.
